The National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin is Ireland’s leading botanical and horticultural institution, which cultivates a comprehensive collection of plants for scientific research, conservation, education and display.

The National Botanic Gardens within The Office of Public Works (OPW) manages the National Botanic Gardens, Kilmacurragh Arboretum in Co. Wicklow and the John F. Kennedy Arboretum in Co. Wexford as an integral part of the National Botanic Gardens.

Reporting to the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management and development of the horticultural collection of the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Kilmacurragh and the John F. Kennedy Arboretum in New Ross as well as managing and leading the directly employed OPW workforce. S/he will also be responsible for assisting the Director with the budgeting, workforce planning, management and safety of staff and visitors at these three sites.

The successful candidate will hold a qualification at Level 7 or higher, on the National Framework of Qualifications in an appropriate subject, e.g., Horticulture, Botany or a related discipline and will have experience in the supervision or management of a plant collection, botanic gardens or arboretum as well as administrative experience in the running of a significant maintenance and works organisation.
