Senior Exhibition Developer
Life Science Centre, which opened in May 2000, is the only purpose-built Science Centre in the north, attracting over 200,000 visitors per year. Life's varied and eclectic public engagement programme attracts a broad audience including families, adults, pre-schoolers and teenagers.
Life will be developing two new permanent exhibitions between now and summer 2016. The first project, 'You, the Scientist', will be a publicly-accessible laboratory space in the heart of the science centre where participants will take on the role of a laboratory scientist. 'Brain, Mind and Culture' will be an exhibition at the intersection of Neuroscience, Psychology and Anthropology, intended to display the process of investigating the brain (rather than only the results). It will feature psychology experiments, live data-collecting experiments and a space for researchers to carry out research with visitors. Both projects will be delivered by a combination of in-house staff and external contractors, consultants and academic partners.
We wish to recruit two people to contribute to these projects (a Senior Exhibition Developer and an Exhibition Researcher).
Both appointments will be full-time and on a maximum 2 year fixed term basis.
Working to the Head of Special Projects, the Senior Exhibition Developer will be the main point of contact between the in-house project team and external contributors (including designers, contractors, consultants and expert advisors).
With support from the Exhibition Researcher you will help to shape the intellectual content and visitor activities featured in the exhibitions.
With a degree (or equivalent qualification) in science or another subject relevant to the development of science exhibitions (or an equivalent level of professional experience), you will have experience of developing content and/or activities for an interactive exhibition or new media project and a successful track record of managing small projects.
