Exhibition Researcher
Life Science Centre, which opened in May 2000, is the only purpose-built Science Centre in the north, attracting over 200,000 visitors per year. Life's varied and eclectic public engagement programme attracts a broad audience including families, adults, pre-schoolers and teenagers.
Life will be developing two new permanent exhibitions between now and summer 2016. The first project, 'You, the Scientist', will be a publicly-accessible laboratory space in the heart of the science centre where participants will take on the role of a laboratory scientist. 'Brain, Mind and Culture' will be an exhibition at the intersection of Neuroscience, Psychology and Anthropology, intended to display the process of investigating the brain (rather than only the results). It will feature psychology experiments, live data-collecting experiments and a space for researchers to carry out research with visitors. Both projects will be delivered by a combination of in-house staff and external contractors, consultants and academic partners.
We wish to recruit two people to contribute to these projects (a Senior Exhibition Developer and an Exhibition Researcher).
Both appointments will be full-time and on a maximum 2 year fixed term basis.
The Exhibition Researcher will provide content research, content development and exhibit development input to capital exhibition projects.
Working to the Head of Special Projects and with the Senior Exhibition Developer, you will help to shape the intellectual content and visitor activities featured in the exhibitions.
The successful candidate will have a degree (or equivalent qualification) in science or evidence of equivalent professional level experience.
A self-starter with a curious, imaginative mind, you will have some experience of working in science communication, public engagement or education.
