Freelance Volunteer Co-ordinator
Manchester Science Festival is looking to recruit a Freelance Volunteer Coordinator to plan, manage and deliver the Volunteer Programme for this year's Festival.
Responsibilities
- Overall management and support of up to approximately 60 volunteers for Manchester Science Festival
- Provide administration services for the volunteering programme for the Festival
- Lead on the Volunteer recruitment process, including application, selection and appointment of volunteers
- Organise and deliver volunteer briefings sessions
- Liaise with Festival partners to identify volunteering needs
- Brief key staff and Festival partners regarding the delivery of volunteering programme
- Plan and schedule volunteer involvement during the Festival making sure it meets the Festival needs
- Manage and support the volunteers during the Festival
- Support the evaluation plan for the Festival
- Organise and support the delivery of the volunteer celebratory event at the end of the Festival
1. REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- Experience of coordinating volunteering projects
- Experience of working on large scale events
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent administration and IT skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience of working across different venues
- Attention to detail when dealing with large databases
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Commitment to achieving high standards
- Flexibility. Available to work both evening and weekend when necessary
- Willingness to support the Festival's commitment to equal opportunities
Desirable
- Interest in new contemporary science and culture
- Driving license and access to own vehicle
2. TIMESCALE
- Freelance Volunteer Coordinator appointed 23rd July 2014
- Induction day after appointment
- Preparation before meeting with Festival partners
- Consultation with Festival partners end of July 2014
- Administration to advertise positions
- Volunteer positions advertised 8th August
- Administration for interviews
- Volunteer interviews and security checks weeks commencing 1st and 8th September 2014
- Volunteer induction week commencing 22nd September 2014
- Production of volunteering rota
- Manage volunteers during Manchester Science Festival 23rd October - 2nd November 2014
- Organising thank you event 2nd November 2014
3. FEE AND PAYMENT
The fee for this freelance opportunity is £6,000 covering approximately 50 days starting July 2014 through to beginning of November 2014.
This fee is exclusive of VAT but includes all expenses, travel and materials.
The fee will be paid in installments upon receipt of invoices:
- £1,000 up front after appointment
- £1,000 after volunteer interviews are completed
- £1,000 after completion of rotas and induction
£3,000 after completion of services contracted
Total: £ 6,000

The deadline for receipt proposals is 4pm 16th July 2014. Any proposals received after this deadline will not be considered.

Following an assessment of submissions shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a formal interview on 23rd July 2014.
