The Natural History Museum is one of the world's leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.
The Earth Sciences Department holds collections and researches areas relating to the origins of the planet, the earth's resources and the evolution of life. The department also houses the Anthropology collections, which include the modern human remains collection of approximately 20,000 individuals, comprised mostly of skeletal remains.
The Anthropology section is embarking on a number of major projects, including refurbishment of the collections store. This role will involve helping with a full audit and movement of the collections to their temporary space. It will also involve some editing of database records of the modern human remains collection.
The ideal candidate for this post will hold a master's degree in a relevant discipline, which must have a significant human osteology component. They must also have experience of working with human remains collections. They must be self-motivated, with good organisational skills, and experience of working in a sensitive and confidential environment. Good computer skills are essential, particularly with Microsoft Office and experience of working with databases.
