Teaching/General Laboratory Technician
The Department has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic technician to assist in the organisation and operation of our undergraduate teaching laboratories. The role involves working with academic staff and students, setting out experiments, maintenance of teaching equipment, and general support in relation to undergraduate practical classes, field trips and examinations. The successful applicant will report to the Principal Technician but will also interact with academic staff, other support staff and undergraduate and graduate students across the Department.
The successful candidate will have a good general education to A level/ONC level 3 preferably in scientific subjects; GCSEs in physical or biological sciences are required. The person appointed must play a full part as a member of the Department's team of support staff, covering for others where necessary, and will have excellent time management, organisational and communication skills. The role demands a conscientious, accurate and methodical approach and the ability to work to fixed deadlines along with basic IT skills and the ability to think clearly and quickly when working under pressure. Experience of working in a teaching classroom would be an advantage.
This post will involve occasional Saturdays during the exam period in May-June and the post holder may also be required to work on 1 or 2 bank holidays during this period but will receive additional payment for this time.
