This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

Duties
As a Research Geologist within the St. Petersburg Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

◦Serve as an independent researcher and principle investigator conducting research on studies that focus on benthic foraminifers, environmental history, and water quality including identification of the paleoclimate of the northern Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and adjacent areas and analyses of depositional environments in coastal waters.
◦Responsible for quantitative analyses of benthic foraminifer assemblages and for integrating results into interpretive written reports.
◦Work requires interpretation of past environments and oceanography of the northern GOM through analyses of benthic foraminifers and/or sedimentologic, isotopic, and chemical analyses of marine sediments recovered from the GOM.
◦Effectively plan and carry out major investigations within the framework of a large multidisciplinary research efforts.
◦Author or co-author scientific manuscripts of significance for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
USGS has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. The official worksite for the selectee is the duty location identified in this vacancy announcement. The selectee will typically report to this location on a regular and recurring basis.
