Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (EU BON)
The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.
We have an opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to join the department of Life Sciences here at the Natural History Museum. The Museum holds a plant collection of almost 6 million specimens collected from across the world over hundreds of years and has a diverse and active range of research projects on almost all groups of organisms.
As the Post-Doctoral Research Assistant you would be based within the Plants Division, working alongside a dedicated team of botanical researchers, specialist herbarium curators and SRLI for Plants project staff. This position is an exciting opportunity to join the research activities of a pan-European consortium of 28 institutions to undertake practical, theoretical and cutting-edge research of direct conservation relevance.
The main focus of the post will be to pilot ground-truthing techniques for species conservation assessments that underlie the IUCN Sampled Red List Index for Plants, as well as theoretical estimation of up-scaling and down-scaling of patterns of plant diversity, including Europe-wide measures of plant species richness, endemism and conservation priority, together with other consortium partners.
The Museum is an equal opportunity employer, supports a diverse workplace and offers a competitive benefits package including:
•Membership of the civil service pension scheme
•Generous annual leave allowance
•Free entry to a wide range of museums and exhibitions
•Interest-free season ticket loan
•Child care voucher scheme
•Professional & personal development opportunities
•Employee Assistance Programme
•Discounts on food and gift shop purchases
