Head of Museums
Overview:
This is a senior management position with direct responsibility for the museums at Ellesmere Port and Gloucester and all of the designated museum and archive collections. You will build and deliver a sustainable strategic plan for the museums as well carrying responsibility for the day to day management of the two sites. The role will also provide professional museum and curatorial leadership and advice to the Trust as a whole.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and creative leader who has experience of developing museums to maximise their potential. You will be commercially astute with a track record of delivering outputs which have a positive financial contribution and public benefit. You excel at developing and working with partnerships to achieve common objectives.. You will have the opportunity to transform our offer to grow audiences and engage more closely with local communities and economies.
The role will include representing the Trust externally, so you will need to be passionate about our cause as well as a confident presenter. With a wealth of experience, knowledge and networks within the museum, archives and collections sector, you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering the museums’ strategic objectives while identifying new and innovative ways to enhance our proposition and engage the public in our cause.
Responsibilities:
Provide vision and leadership for the Trust’s museums to develop a sustainable strategy for the sites with a strong national reputation as centres of museum excellence
To act as principal advisor to the Trust on all matters of policy and strategy relating to the management and development of the Trust’s Museums, collections and archives.
To progress and develop the Museums in line with national and locally agreed standards as recognised and valued destinations which inform, educate and engage.
To develop partnerships with external stakeholders, funding bodies and education providers to maximize opportunities across the Trust and Museums.
To develop the concept of a ‘Museum Without Walls’ to enhance the understanding along the whole canal network by educating, informing and building a greater awareness amongst users and the public to increase our profile and visibility
Develop a highly motivated and engaged team of employees and volunteers who deliver the strategy
Develop a Marketing and Communications strategy for the Museums to promote and raise public awareness in order to deliver the Trust’s vision.
Lead the drive to continually improve business efficiency and effectively manage limited resources whilst driving innovation.
