Role description: As a member of the Modern Collections Team, the Information Assistant will assist in the efficient operation of Library and Archives, completing required tasks and projects identified within Library and Archives departmental, Science, and NHM-wide Strategies and corporate plans.

The post holder will contribute to the efficient day-to-day operation of the Modern Collections team by assisting with acquisitions and collection care in both electronic and print environments alongside other members of the team. They will also assist in the development of efficient and effective streamlined procedures using the Library’s new management system Alma and Discovery Layer Primo.

Along with being responsible for the day-to-day care of an allocated section of the Library’s modern collections and assisting in providing user support in those collection areas, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a high quality information service to Library and Archives users by providing enquiry and Reading Room user support on a rota basis.

Salary: £21,021 per annum plus benefits

1. Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification)
2. Proven experience of working in a Library or information environment
3. Demonstrable proven experience of working in a customer focussed environment
4. Ability to demonstrate competence in the operational use of standard computer software and Library Management Systems
5. Awareness and understanding of current issues in the Library and Information professional practice, along with a passion for, and desire to work within, a library role
6. Proven experience of answering enquiries, and resolving user queries competently, particularly in relation to the use of library collections, whether print or electronic
7. Demonstrable experience of quickly and accurately assimilating knowledge and understanding of computer software used by library and archives and its application
8. Excellent organisational skills, with experience of setting and managing conflicting priorities effectively
9. Flexible and adaptable working methods, including the capability to adopt new skills and processes in a fast-paced production environment
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate proficiently at all levels
11. Significant experience of maintaining consistently high levels of accuracy and to attention to detail
Demonstrable experience of working effectively within a team environment and making relevant valuable contributions to those teams
