Curatorial Assistant (Human Remains and Repatriation)
Role description: The Curatorial Assistant (Human Remains and Repatriation) will be responsible for undertaking archival research on parts of the NHM human remains collection and writing this up as project reports. The post holder will be required to travel to other institutions, as necessary, to study material held in their archives relating to NHM collections. The post holder will also complete skeletal inventories and take standard anthropometric measurements under supervision, and enter this data into Museum Collections Management Systems. The post holder will also provide collections management support for the Human Remains Collections Manager and Curator of Anthropology, as directed by line management.
Salary: £23,780 per annum plus benefits

If you wish to be considered for this role you will need to address each of the following competences in the ‘other information’ section of your online application:
1. Educated to Master’s degree level (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline, with a significant human osteology/physical anthropology component
2. Solid experience of documentation and analysis of human remains
3. Demonstrable knowledge of scientific research on human remains
4. Experience of taking standard anthropometric measurements
5. Evidenced experience of using general and specialist software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Photoshop, FORDISC, museum databases)
6. Experienced in using physical resources in libraries/archives
7. Familiarity with, and understanding of, repatriation issues relating to anthropology collections
8. Understanding and knowledge of the legal framework and DCMS guidance relating to human remains in museum collections
9. Excellent communication skills with experience of presenting effectively to a range of different audiences
10. Self-motivated and well organised, with the demonstrable ability to work to tight deadlines
11. Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well both within a team and on own initiative
12. Pragmatic approach to problem solving ,combined with the proven ability to undertake methodical tasks with a high degree of accuracy
