Millennium Seed Bank Partnership Data Warehouse Project Officer
Kew is the world-leader in plant diversity science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a major visitor attraction, that shows the importance of plants in all our lives. Kew’s mission is to inspire and deliver science-based plant conservation worldwide, enhancing the quality of life.
The Millennium Seed Bank Partnership (MSBP) operates in more than 50 countries, and data on seed collections in all these locations is brought together in the MSBP Data Warehouse (http://brahmsonline.kew.org/msbp) using BRAHMS and BRAHMS Online software (http://brahmsonline.com). This is an outstanding opportunity for a skilled data manager to help maintain and develop this global resource, to meet the needs of Kew and our Partners.
With responsibility for gathering, cleaning and managing large datasets you will be helping the MSBP meet its target of banking high quality seed collections of 25% of the world’s flora by 2020. You will manage the MSBP Data Warehouse, and associated content, to the highest standards, and help improve the functionality of both the offline database and the online site. You will have the capacity to design and implement research projects based on the collection data.
Educated to degree level, and with proven experience in checking, managing and manipulating large, high-quality datasets, you will possess excellent IT skills. The post will require working closely with colleagues both within Kew and with external collaborators. You will, therefore, be a team player with good communication skills who works in an organised manner with demonstrable attention to detail. You will be able to manage conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, and work on your own initiative.
