Museum Curator

Applications are invited for the post of Museum Curator in the Scott Polar Research Institute's Polar Museum.

The post holder takes day-to-day responsibility for the Institute's strategy for maintaining, organising and developing the Museum, its collections, services and profile.

The post holder will take the lead in developing strategy and policy in relation to the Museum in the context of the Institute's strategic priorities and plan, and advise the Director of SPRI on issues regarding the mission, direction, purpose and key aims of the Museum.

S/he will lead the management, care and development of the collection, the Museum's programme of exhibitions and other events, and its online presence.

S/he provides front-line liaison with visitors to the Museum, including members of the public, visiting scholars and other users, in particular supporting the use of the collection for research and teaching.

The post holder has a key role in fundraising and is responsible for writing grant applications, both for research grants and to trusts and foundations.

Applicants must have a good honours degree, preferably in a related discipline, for example, Polar Studies, Geography, Environmental Science or History.

Applicants will need a pro-active approach, good time-management and planning skills, together with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as providing clear leadership.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2016 in the first instance.
