Digital Content Manager, Commercial
Role description:
The Digital Content Manager, Commercial is responsible for the development and delivery of digital content representing the Museum’s commercial activity.
The role encompasses business-as-usual, strategic and project-based agile content development for the Museum’s digital platforms. In particular, leading day-to-day digital content creation and updates for public events, Museum Membership and business-to-business activity, developing long-term programmes of exclusive digital content for Members as well as digital content for key Natural History Museum projects.
As well as sourcing, writing, editing and publishing content that meets the Museum’s digital production standards, the role will encompass meticulous planning and evaluation of content delivery in relation to strategic objectives.
The Digital Content Manager, Commercial will also provide audience insight, training, oversight and quality assurance for content produced by contributors.
The successful candidate will have a strong commercial acumen, working closely with Commercial Development teams to provide expert insight on digital trends and opportunities, as well as best practice for digital content development relating to commercial services, in order to drive revenue.
The Content Digital team is made up of nine digital content experts in the Museum’s Content Production department, working collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum’s Public Engagement and Science groups. This particular role will support Commercial Development teams including Membership, Events and Catering and Visitor Events.
Salary: £31,424 per annum plus benefits

1. An undergraduate degree or significant relevant experience in journalism, science communication, digital media or publishing as well as a qualification or significant experience in business.
2. Significant experience of managing digital content development for a large organisation including fast-turnaround, day-to-day updates and longer-term projects, with a particular focus on producing digital content for public events, commercial activity and e-commerce.
3. A demonstrable track record of developing sales-led digital content helping improve conversion rates and drive income, as well as of developing extensive programmes of digital content incorporating short and long-form editorial, multimedia and creative storytelling.
4. Outstanding English language writing skills including the ability to write clear, succinct and engaging copy, to condense technical source material into accessible content with broad appeal, and to edit the content of others and suggest improvements substantiated by guidelines and content objectives.
5. Demonstrable experience of producing content that responds to strategic direction and organisational objectives, meets best practice in writing for digital platforms and adheres to a house style.
6. Demonstrable proficiency in the use of digital production software including content management systems, web-based project management and document-sharing software and media-processing tools, in particular Adobe Photoshop.
7. Excellent planning and project-management skills with proven experience of working with agile methodology, prioritising and managing multiple concurrent projects and tasks, including those undertaken by others, whilst ensuring deadlines are met.
8. Excellent interpersonal skills including a natural ability for diplomacy, collaboration and negotiation with staff at all levels of seniority.
9. A demonstrable interest in new developments in digital media technology, and an understanding of how to identify new opportunities and implement them to meet audience and organisational needs.
10. The ability to work flexibly, respond to conflicting demands on an urgent and ad-hoc basis and prioritise the workload accordingly.
11. A positive attitude, a high degree of integrity and professionalism and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
