The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.

We are looking for several highly skilled Science Educators to join our Learning Engagement team, on the following contracts:

1 Full Time Role – 41 hour week, inclusive of a daily paid meal break of 1 hour. 5/7 working. Rostered to work one weekend in three.

2 Part Time Roles – 18 hours, excluding lunch breaks - 6 hour working day, not inclusive of a one hour lunch break. 9 days over a rotating 3 week period. Rostered to work one weekend in three.

The Natural History Museum has a diverse team of Science Educators. They make learning accessible and memorable for the Museum’s wide and rich audiences by engaging visitors with specimen-rich learning experiences. These include a range of subject matter, delivered across a number of platforms - including shows, workshops, tours and handling stations. All our activities encourage scientific inquiry, questioning and dialogue. Working closely with the Learning Engagement Managers you will have a passion for the natural world as well as informal education.

The successful candidates will have previous experience of delivering learning experiences to a variety of audiences and have an understanding of how people learn. A degree in a natural science, or equivalent experience, is essential for this post. Candidates will have a passion for science, especially natural history, and excellent face to face communication skills.

Salary: Full time, 41 hours per week £24,018 per annum plus benefits / Part time, 18 hours per week £12,009 per annum plus benefits

Contract: 12 months fixed term contract roles

4. Detailed knowledge of how people learn and what makes a quality museum learning experience
5. Consistent commitment to reflective practice and professional development
6. Confident and articulate communicator
7. Ability to inspire, enthuse and build rapport with large groups and individuals
8. Broad knowledge of the National Curriculum, with a particular understanding in science
9. Detailed understanding of the scientific process
10. An awareness of key legislation including the Equality Duty and Health & Safety with an understanding of their implications for museum activity
11. Extensive experience of working with the public and excellent customer care skills
12. Extensive team working and interpersonal skills
