Collections Manager, Invertebrates B (Maternity cover)

This role will manage the Natural History Museum Invertebrate and Plants collections. Leading a team of curators responsible for those groups, co-ordinate the collections activities within agreed guidelines approved by the Head of Palaeobiology Collections. Organise databasing, loans and the supervision of visitors and access to the collections. Critically, the role requires the management and delivery of large datasets and providing training and guidance on the use of the Museum’s Collections Management System.
This role will contribute to policy development and take on the full curatorial responsibility for a designated area of the collection. Also Project management of key digitisation projects within the ES department.

If you wish to be considered for this role you will need to address each of the following competences in the ‘other information’ section of your online application:
1. Proficiency in the various aspects of natural sciences collections management
2. Substantial Collections Management experience
3. Experience of curating invertebrate and/or fossil plant collections to a high standard
4. Proven track record of successful management of junior staff
5. Demonstrable knowledge of collections databasing and documentation
6. Demonstrable knowledge of, and interest in an aspect of invertebrate or plant systematics
7. Track record of achievement within collections based research
8. Project Management experience, preferably of digitisation projects
9. Substantive experience of managing large datasets
10. Experience of providing training and guidance in use of Collections Management Systems
