Museum Collections Manager
The Museum of Cultural and Natural History at Central Michigan University is one of America’s oldest applied laboratories for students in the interdisciplinary Museum Studies and Cultural Resource Management Programs. The fast-paced work environment also supports classes and research in Biology, Anthropology, History, and many other university disciplines. The museum is actively engaged with audiences both within and outside the university.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in museum collections management and associated topics as needed.
Generates and maintains all records information regarding collections, including accession and catalog records, loans, and inventories.
Develops and maintains an automated collections management system including software and related hardware.
In association with curators, develops collections management policies and procedures.
Trains and supervises museum student staff to participate in collections management efforts.
Recruits and supervises collections volunteers.
Participates in an active grant writing and contracting program.
Facilitates exhibition program, supporting work by Curators and creating periodic displays.
Mentors Museum Studies / Cultural Resource Management students interested in museum collections and material culture studies.
Provides opportunities for Museum Studies / Cultural Resource Management students to participate in collections operations.
Other duties as assigned by the Director.
May supervisor other office staff in absence of the Director.
