Culture Perth and Kinross wishes to recruit a Project Officer (temporary for two years full time) to undertake a review of the nationally Recognized collections held by Perth & Kinross Council.

This will involve a systematic approach to documentation, collections and information management, research, volunteer management, communicating and consulting with stakeholders and working with subject specialists.

You should be a capable, enthusiastic team player who is committed to providing a high quality of work.

You will also have a relevant degree in a history, art history, natural science or a related discipline and ideally experience of working in a museum or gallery.

The successful candidate will be part of the Curatorial Team based at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.

Job Purpose

This is an opportunity for you to join an ambitious Museums and Galleries Service at an exciting time of transformation and development.

The Project Officer will undertake a review of the nationally Recognised collections held by Perth & Kinross Council, in order to gain a clear and accurate picture of the entire contents of the collection, its significance, how it is used, stored and the condition in order to inform strategic management of the collection.

This will involve a systematic approach to documentation, collections and information management, research, volunteer management, communicating and consulting with stakeholders and working with subject specialists.

Main Accountabilities

- Undertake areview of the nationally recognised collections held by Perth & Kinross Council Responsibility for day to day management of the Collections Review volunteer programme and work with Young Heritage Ambassadors

- Identify subject specialists and work with them to gather information on specific areas of the collection
- Liaise with marketing and education staff to share collections information and project findings with the public
- Liaise with learning, outreach and curatorial staff to develop community led consultation in connection with the review
- Data inputting onto Adlib database and Excel
- Assist the steering group to analyse findings and share information with curators, stakeholders and the public.
- Contribute to the planning of an exhibition highlighting the collections iconic objects and object stories uncovered during the review
- Undertake professional development through appropriate training and other opportunities.

The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time depending on the requirement of the Service without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibilities entailed.

The post holder may be required to work occasional evening and weekends to meet the delivery needs of service

Job Specific Requirements
Knowledge & Experience

Essential
- Degree in a history, art history or natural science related discipline
- Experience of working in a museum or gallery
- Excellent IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Office especially Excel
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience of writing reports
- Demonstratable research skills

Desirable
- Qualification in museum/gallery studies
- Knowledge and experience of museum collections databases
- Volunteer management
- ECDL
