BASIC JOB FUNCTION

The Collections Manager will be responsible for fulfilling user requests for specimens and data of algae, bryophytes and fungi from the Steere Herbarium, reviewing all new accessions to the herbarium, and managing type specimens in these groups.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage and curate the Herbarium’s extensive type collection of algae, bryophytes and fungi
Fulfill loan and e-loan requests for algae, bryophytes and fungi
Address nomenclatural issues that arise during loan fulfillment
Facilitate movement and tracking of loans with the Shipping Office
Screen, process and digitize incoming new collections
Manage determination reports to collaborators

REQUIREMENTS

M.S. in Botany or Biology preferred
Experience with herbarium management and curation
Experience with specimen digitization
Experience with at least one type of cryptogamic collection (e.g. algae, bryophytes or fungi) preferred
Experience with botanical nomenclature preferred
Willing to participate in grant proposal writing and management of grant-funded projects
