The Wessex Museums Partnership (WMP) is a thriving consortium of the four principal museums across Dorset and Wiltshire that tell the stories of Wessex from prehistory to the present day. It is an exciting moment for the WMP as from April 2018, we are one of the Arts Council England's new National Portfolio Organisations. As such we have an ambitious programme to deliver over the next four years.

Dorset County Museum is one of the key members of the WMP and is at a pivotal moment in its 170 year history, having also secured a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). It is therefore embarking on a £15.4 million capital expansion project to construct the innovative, visitor-focused 'Tomorrow's Museum for Dorset'. This will completely reimagine the Museum - its galleries, exhibitions, storage facilities, working spaces and retail offer - to produce an organisation able to better conserve and interpret Dorset's internationally significant heritage and be ready to meet the expectations of modern visitors.

As a result of support from the WMP and HLF, Dorset County Museum is looking to recruit two new full-time Collections Assistants.

Employed in its new Collections and Public Engagement Division, this will be an exciting time for the right candidate to help shape this new department, document and secure the future for this significant collection and make it accessible to new audiences.

This fixed term appointment is until 31 March 2021.

The post holder will support all aspects of collections management, curation, research, documentation and public engagement at Dorset County Museum.

They will contribute to the delivery of our new exhibitions and galleries planned as part of the Tomorrows Museum for Dorset project through the documentation of the collections and the production and coordination of collections information, images and data for inclusion on design briefs and object lists.

The role will support DCM as it transforms its services in line with its mission to be the leading heritage, arts and cultural organisation in Dorset

Application is by CV with a full covering letter explaining why you feel you are a suitable candidate for this vital role at the Museum.
