The Museum is looking for a Documentation Assistant to support the collections team in the delivery of the Collections Documentation Plan and the on-boarding of a new collections management system from 2024. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to experience working with a broad range of collections. It is an entry level position which will be supported by the wider team.

The Documentation Assistant will undertake an inventory of collections making sure that the documentation meets SPECTRUM standards and allows us to meet our Museum Accreditation requirements. They will work with the Head of Collections and the Curator of Natural History to improve the existing catalogue records to expand the quality and type of data held.

We are looking for a person who has a basic understanding of, or interest in, documenting museum collections and the challenges of documentation work. You will have great organisational skills including the ability to work independently to drive forward your own work programme. Excellent computer-based skills with an ability to input data with a high level of accuracy are essential. Undertaking manual handling, sometimes working in dusty, cramped spaces or at height is required.

Training: A Professional Development Plan will be agreed with the Head of Collections. This will include training, mentoring and new professional opportunities.
