The following article is adapted from the text of an invited address given to the University Museums Group at the Courtland Institute on 25th October 1991, in the presence of Simon Roodhouse and David Wears of the MTI. As you may imagine, it stimulated a vigorous debate on the relationship between university museums and the MTI.
