Earth Sciences Collections Manager
We are seeking a Collections Manager in Earth Sciences. This is a full-time, exempt position, supported by endowment. The Collections Manager is responsible for the continued development of the geology and paleontology collections as well as promoting their study and appreciation through the Museum's nature education programs and exhibits. The Museum seeks an energetic candidate with broad interests in these disciplines and a passion for science outreach and education.
Minimum requirements for this position include a MS in geology or paleontology, or commensurate experience and expertise with museum collections and management techniques. Additionally, a record of collections-based research is desirable.
Candidates should be good communicators and enthusiastic interpreters of regional earth sciences to the public.

Exhibition Partnerships Manager
The candidate will be responsible for the selling of the Museum’s portfolio of International Touring Exhibitions to ensure a full booking schedule is achieved. They will be responsible for high level sales with clients primarily in the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East and will report to the Head of Touring Exhibitions. Our clients include Museums, Galleries, Science Centres, Zoos, shopping centres and a variety of other exhibition spaces. The role will require travel internationally and also a great deal of negotiations, business planning and market analysis.
The Exhibition Partnerships Manager will be able to think of creative pitches and solutions, selling to customers with a wide range of exhibition configuration and audiences. They will liaise with other internal department to jointly create with other team members marketing and communications materials including print, video and web.
She/he will do customer research to identify new clients and gather/analyse statistics to monitor results and benchmark in specific regions that she/he will manage.
She/he will provide monthly sales reports and liaise with Logistics to ensure all clients’ needs are met.
European and Long haul travel will be required and some weekend working due to travel schedule
Project Officer: Mobile Museum
The Project Officer will have a vital role in coordinating the wide range of national and institutional contacts required; handling data relating to objects and archives, and coordinating external communications via social media and project workshops. Data management will include the extraction, exchange and standardisation of collections data, creation and maintenance of the project database and image files, and analysis of project results. Support will be given by Kew’s IT specialists and other project staff for technical aspects of data management.
The Project Officer will be a core member of the team, alongside two post-doctoral researchers (Dr Caroline Cornish, and another to be appointed 2018), and the two project leaders, Prof. Felix Driver (Department of Geography, Royal Holloway) and Dr Mark Nesbitt (Collections Department, Kew). The post is based at Kew and runs for three years from January 2017.
We are looking for applicants with experience of research, to Master’s level or beyond, but are open as to subject area – although situated in the humanities, this is a highly interdisciplinary project. More important is experience of data management and the ability to acquire new skills in this area. The project will have large numbers of contacts and large quantities of data, so good time management and a meticulous approach to data are essential. Good communication skills are required both within the project team and for external audiences. Experience or interest in collections is highly desirable.
This post offers the opportunity not only to build deep familiarity with Kew’s world-leading botanical collections and archives, but also to interact with many other museums worldwide. The Project Officer will gain transferable skills in handling a wide range of collection and archive data, and will also be able to develop skills in data analysis applied to historical research. Support will be given for training and career development throughout the project.

Fungarium Collections Assistant
Kew is the world leader in plant diversity science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a major visitor attraction, that shows the importance of plants and fungi in all our lives. Kew’s mission is to inspire and deliver science-based plant conservation worldwide, enhancing the quality of life.
This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of Kew’s Fungarium Collections Management team. You will be assisting in the curation of our unique and extensive Fungarium collection, which holds an estimated 1.25 million dried fungal specimens. It is one of the world’s oldest, largest, and most comprehensive mycological reference collections, containing many specimens of historical and scientific importance.
You will have 5 GCSE’s or NVQ Level 2 equivalent. You will have highly accurate data basing and word processing skills and the ability to handle delicate specimens with care, as you will be selecting specimens to send out on loan to researchers. This role also requires excellent communication skills, as at times, you will be assisting the team with leading tours of the Fungarium for a diverse range of visitors, and participating in other public engagement activities. Ideally you will have a keen interest in fungi and previous experience of working with Collections.
Please note that this role involves regular manual handling activities, including carrying and lifting moderately heavy boxes of specimens and the use of short mobile safety ladders.

Collections Manager Botanical Science
BASIC JOB FUNCTION
The Collections Manager will be responsible for fulfilling user requests for specimens and data of algae, bryophytes and fungi from the Steere Herbarium, reviewing all new accessions to the herbarium, and managing type specimens in these groups.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Manage and curate the Herbarium’s extensive type collection of algae, bryophytes and fungi
Fulfill loan and e-loan requests for algae, bryophytes and fungi
Address nomenclatural issues that arise during loan fulfillment
Facilitate movement and tracking of loans with the Shipping Office
Screen, process and digitize incoming new collections
Manage determination reports to collaborators
REQUIREMENTS

Working within the Collections directorate, the Collections Care Manager is accountable for the overall management and care of the collection.
Also accountable for the management and development of the Museum Collections Centre
Accountabilities:
1. The management of Birmingham Museums Trust's collection; leading collections development, documentation, storage, loans, insurance and conservation to meet Accreditation standards
2. Leadership and management of the Collections Care team to enable effective day to day operations, ensuring that it is engaged with the sector and delivers best practice
3. The management and strategic development of the Museum Collections Centre (MCC) including health & safety on site.
4. The management of the Collections Care budget.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To lead the management of BMT's collection, including benchmarks in collections care, storage, collection insurance, object movement, documentation, cataloguing and associated collections management procedures
2. To lead the management and development of preventive and interventive conservation programmes, ensuring that relevant data relating to environment, standards, conservation practice, analysis and so forth is effectively recorded and reported as required
3. Strategic and operational management of the MCC, including responsibility for health and safety on site and supporting security operations on site
4. To support and manage major future developments concerning the storage and development of the collection

11. Advise the Director of Collections on the development and lending of BMT's collection within the context of the agreed Lending, Acquisitions and Disposals Policy, and ensure that loans adhere to BMT's lending procedures
12. Support the Collections Care team to answer public enquires about the collection, undertaking collections documentation and developing both display and collections storage.
13. Ensure collection records and documentation are maintained in accordance with SPECTRUM standards.
14. Oversee the maintenance and development of the Collection Management System to meet BMT's requirements and develop improved online access to the collection.
15. Ensure that appropriate procedures are in place for the loan of items from the collection in accordance with the Lending, Acquisitions and Disposals Policy.
16. Support the development of exhibitions, collection displays, capital and major development projects in relation to Collections Care

Conservator - Collections care and Re-display
The Museum of Zoology is in the middle of a major redevelopment of its galleries and stores and wishes to recruit a conservator to assist with its ambitious plans.
We are looking for a trained conservator, particularly with experience of conservation and redisplay of natural history collections, to help in this enormous task. The museum holds some 3 million specimens, and over 5,000 are going on display. Skills in collections care, mounting specimens and IPM are all highly desirable. You will be working as part of a small team within a wider community of contractors, volunteers and academics so excellent team working skills are essential.

Assistant Director of the Museum of Geology
The Museum of Geology at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for an Assistant Director. The Museum of Geology consists of two distinct but interrelated components: the public museum, and the James E. Martin Paleontology Research Lab. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall administrative duties associated with the public floor of the Museum of Geology. These duties include managing the gift shop, gift shop accounts, and 10-12 student workers. This position also is responsible for managing museum operating budgets and making all purchases for the gift shop and museum, which includes both product and advertisements. In addition to hiring and managing student workers, this position may oversee volunteer workers. This position also maintains museum exhibits and coordinates marketing and educational outreach for the museum.
A bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field is required. Knowledge of geology and paleontology at a level to assist visitors and train student workers is required. Bookkeeping skills to keep records on museum budgets, placing orders, making purchases, inventory and pricing museum store stock, and keeping the cash register functioning properly also are required, as is the ability to work with the media relations office to design promotional materials and keep the Museum of Geology webpage up to date.
